Dominican Republic: An Up and Coming Destination!

It's a long journey to reach some of the islands in the Caribbean. But, I must say the Dominican Republic is an island worth the trek. The Punta Cana area is an up and coming eco friendly tourist destination. The beaches are sugar white and the water is crystal clear. There are many fun tropical excursions to try like zip-lining, a jungle tour, visiting the coacoa farms as well as many water activities and the casinos. A highlight is swimming with the reef sharks, dolphin and rays. The infrastructure needs much work. The roads are rough and bumpy along the poverty stricten areas, but I have come to accept this as part of any island life. It doesn't seem to bother the locals, why should we be so bothered by it. The Dominicans are fun playful people that literally dance in the street or at least on the side walks. DR offers many beautiful resorts along the best beaches, but as with most areas now, beware of the time-share sells people. Always put a "Do not call" on your room reservation. Choose this island if you are a true beach lover and plan to spend most of your days at the resort. My #1 romantic pick is the Excellence Resort, wow!
